Just gonna chime in and point out that when Fai casts that transport spell during the “spell casting time” part of this scene (Vol. 21 of the manga, page 165), we actually see the “words” of Fai’s magic circling Kurohane only. Fai’s body and his hand casting the spell are shown as being outside the spell’s circumference. We then get a panel of Kurogane’s eyes that shows Kurogane’s form shifting, like the spell is about to transport him. (Syaoran and Sakura’s forms shifted the same way before they were teleported.) After that there’s a close up of Kurogane’s hand gripping down more tightly on Fai’s arm, as if trying to make sure they arn’t seperated. In this panel, the outline Kurogane’s arm is wavering, but Fai’s is solid. We know that Fai can’t move from the center of the spell, so how I read this scene is that Kurogane tried to make sure they were teleported together, but because that couldn’t happen (because Fai’s magic wasn’t strong enough to remove him from the center of the spell), there was a recoil and that is what caused the explosion between Kurogane and Fai. Look on the next page. The spell explodes, but its exploding in front of Fai, not behind him, meaning that Fai was trying to only transport Kurogane, but Kurogane wouldn’t let him.

Is this going to start being like pigeons when you think you’re finally on top of everything and have uncovered all the little snippets of information and you think there’s no feels left that can catch you off guard and you feel so boss about it BUT THEN POSTS LIKE THESE HAPPEN AND YOU JUST LOSE YOUR SHIT ALL OVER AGAIN.
